# Gifted collaboration offer

Offer product in exchange for content, with clear expectations on what you need back. Outreach emails · DOCX · Google Docs.

The outline and the notes are free to read. The full template and a filled-in example are included with annual access ($245 a year). The Word and Google Docs files are coming soon. Updated 17 October 2026.

## The short version

A gifted offer sends a creator your product for free, with clear expectations about what, if anything, you’d like back. It works for seeding new products and for organic content. It isn’t a substitute for a paid job: videos you want to run as ads should be paid for and licensed.

The email has to answer three questions honestly: is posting required, what exactly would you like, and what can you do with the content afterwards. This page has three versions: a no-strings gift, product in exchange for content, and product plus a small fee.

The outline below is free to copy. The three full versions and a filled-in example are included with annual access.

## When to use it

**Gifted or paid?**

| Your goal | Offer | Why |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Get a new product into creators’ hands and see who likes it | Version 1: no-strings gift | No obligation means honest reactions and no pressure |
| Get a few organic videos for your own accounts | Version 2: product for content | Fair when the product’s value matches the work you ask for |
| Get organic videos from a creator whose time costs more than the product | Version 3: product plus a small fee | A fee makes the exchange fair and the deadline realistic |
| Get videos to run as paid ads | A paid offer: the [first outreach email](https://ugcstars.com/templates/first-outreach) | Ads need a paid usage license, not a gift |

Whatever you offer, the creator’s [disclosure](https://ugcstars.com/creator-hub/glossary#disclosure) duties stay the same. In the US, the FTC’s Endorsement Guides treat a free product as a [material connection](https://ugcstars.com/creator-hub/glossary#material-connection) that has to be disclosed when the creator posts about it, and other countries have similar rules. The templates ask for it in plain words.

## What’s inside

**Outline: Gifted collaboration offer**
```text
Subject: [Brand] would love to send you [product]
Hi [Creator first name],
We’d like to send you [product] to try. If you enjoy it, we’d ask for [deliverables] by [date], with permission to repost on our organic channels.
There’s no obligation to post if it isn’t a fit. Let me know your shipping address if you’re interested.
[Your name]
```
_Highlighted text in [brackets] is for you to fill in._

The outline is the product-for-content offer in its shortest form. The full versions below add the product’s value, the disclosure line, the usage you’re asking for, and the other two ways to structure a gift.

## Version 1: a no-strings gift

Use this to seed a product: you send it, and the creator posts only if they genuinely like it. You get honest feedback and, sometimes, organic posts. You can’t plan around any content, because none is promised.

> _Full template, version 1: no-strings gift_

> **This template is included with annual access.** Annual access is $245 a year and unlocks every creator’s contact details and every template, including new ones as we add them. Already have it? ### How to fill it in

- [product] and [product value]: the item and its retail value. Stating the value helps the creator judge the offer and handle disclosure correctly.
- [specific video]: one real video of theirs, to show the gift isn’t random.
- Don’t add “but we’d love a post” at the end. A gift with a hidden expectation is version 2, and it should say so.

## Version 2: product in exchange for content

Use this when you’d like specific content back for your organic channels. It’s a trade, so it spells out the deliverables, the deadline, what you can do with the content, and that the post must be disclosed. Keep the request proportionate: a small product doesn’t pay for a full video shoot.

> **Full template, version 2: product for content** is included with annual access. [Get annual access](https://ugcstars.com/pricing) or [log in](https://ugcstars.com/login?from=/templates/gifted-offer).

### How to fill it in

- [deliverables]: specific and modest, such as “one 20–30 second video and two photos”. A creator should be able to do it in a short session.
- [date]: leave at least two weeks after the product arrives.
- [platforms] and [duration]: the organic [usage](https://ugcstars.com/creator-hub/glossary#organic-usage) you’re asking for, such as “Instagram and TikTok, for 6 months”. Credit the creator when you repost.
- The “Not included” line protects both sides. Running gifted content as a paid ad without a paid license is an easy way to end up in a dispute.

## Version 3: product plus a small fee

Use this when the content you want is worth more than the product, which is often the case for established creators or detailed videos. A fee on top of the product makes the exchange fair and gives you a firmer deadline.

> **Full template, version 3: product plus a fee** is included with annual access. [Get annual access](https://ugcstars.com/pricing) or [log in](https://ugcstars.com/login?from=/templates/gifted-offer).

### How to fill it in

- [fee]: a fixed amount. Check the creator’s [starting rate](https://ugcstars.com/creator-hub/glossary#starting-rate) on their UGCStars profile first. If the fee plus the product’s value is far below it, expect a counteroffer.
- [payment days]: such as “14”. Pay on time. It’s the fastest way to become a brand creators want to work with again.
- For anything beyond organic use, use the [UGC content agreement](https://ugcstars.com/templates/content-agreement) and a paid usage license.

## A filled-in example

Here is version 2 filled in for an example: a coffee brand offers a creator a grinder in exchange for one short video and two photos for its organic accounts. The brand, the people and the figures are made up.

> **Example: product for content from a coffee brand** is included with annual access. [Get annual access](https://ugcstars.com/pricing) or [log in](https://ugcstars.com/login?from=/templates/gifted-offer).

The offer is proportionate: a product worth about $180 for one short video and two photos. Everything the creator needs to decide is in the list, and the usage line rules out paid ads, so there’s no surprise later.

## Mistakes to avoid

- Calling it a gift when you expect content. If you expect something back, say exactly what. Hidden expectations damage your reputation with creators.
- Asking for too much. A full ad package with hooks and raw footage is paid work, whatever the product costs.
- Running gifted content as a paid ad. Ads need a paid usage license. Ask first and pay for it.
- Leaving out disclosure. Ask creators to disclose the gift when they post, and never ask them to hide it.
- Sending the product before they agree. Ask first, then ship. Unrequested parcels feel like pressure.

## Questions brands ask

**Do creators have to disclose gifted products?**

Generally, yes. In the US, the FTC’s Endorsement Guides treat a free product as a material connection that should be disclosed when the creator posts about it, and the UK and EU have similar rules. Ask creators to disclose it and to use the platform’s branded content tools where they apply.

**Can I repost a gifted video in our ads?**

Only with the creator’s agreement and, normally, a fee for paid usage. Organic reposting is a different, smaller permission. Agree it in writing before you use the video.

**Is gifting worth it for UGC?**

For seeding and organic content, it can be. For videos you plan to run as ads, a paid job gives you a clear deadline, a license and footage made to your brief.

## Before you send it

- It’s clear whether posting is optional or expected.
- If you expect content, the deliverables and the date are specific and proportionate to the product’s value.
- The usage you’re asking for is stated, and paid ads are excluded unless paid for.
- The email asks the creator to disclose the gift when they post.
- You’ll ship only after the creator says yes.
