## The short version

Brands want holiday gift guide videos that show a product being chosen, wrapped, opened and used, with a clear reason it suits a specific person on your list. Holiday shopping is starting in October, shoppers say social video shapes what they buy, and creator-led traffic is one of the fastest-growing sources of holiday sales. If you have a giftable product, now is the time to brief creators so content is live before the biggest shopping days.

The best gift content is specific. It does not say this is a great gift. It says who it is for, why, and what it looks like when they open it.

## Why brands are casting for it now

### Shoppers say social video drives purchases

In its holiday study released October 8, [Circana](https://www.circana.com/post/circana-s-2026-holiday-study-finds-consumers-spending-selectively-not-stepping-away) found that 57% of consumers say they are likely to buy a product after seeing it on social media, rising to 82% among Gen Z. The same study says product-review videos influence purchase decisions for nearly seven in ten viewers. Circana also found that 74% of consumers expect to adopt money-saving behaviors, so value needs to come through in the content too.

### Creator traffic is gaining share

[Adobe](https://news.adobe.com/news/downloads/pdfs/2026/09/adi-holiday-forecast-release-9-28.pdf) expects affiliates and partners, which include social influencers, and social media overall to post the biggest gains in share of holiday revenue, up 12% and 17% respectively, compared with 4% for paid search. Within affiliate traffic, Adobe says influencers and creators hold a 22% share. Adobe forecasts US online holiday sales of $275.1 billion, up 6.7% year over year.

### The season has already started

Holiday buying began during October's Prime event. [Numerator](https://www.numerator.com/prime-big-deal-days/) found that 20% of Prime Big Deal Days shoppers used the sale to buy holiday gifts, while 56% were not yet sure what they need or want for the holidays. That second group is the audience a gift guide video is made for.

Circana adds that shoppers are drawn to gifts that blend practicality and personal meaning: wellness products, personalized gifts, collectibles, experiences and connected home products. Those are the categories where a creator's explanation does the most work.

There is a budget story underneath this. Circana expects average holiday spending of $779 per shopper, compared with $796 last year, and says more than a third of shoppers are canceling or delaying holiday travel because of cost, with some of that money moving to at-home celebrations and gifts. [Circana](https://www.circana.com/post/circana-s-2026-holiday-study-finds-consumers-spending-selectively-not-stepping-away) calls this reprioritizing rather than cutting back. For brands, it means the gift has to feel worth it, and a creator who explains why is doing the selling.

## What brands ask creators to film

- Gift guide by person: three to five products for one recipient, such as gifts for a new parent or for someone who loves to cook.
- Gift guide by budget: products grouped by price band, with the price on screen.
- Wrap and reveal: the product wrapped, then opened on camera by a friend or family member.
- First use after unboxing: the gift in action, not just in the box.
- Stocking stuffer roundup: small items filmed quickly in a series.
- Honest review with a gifting angle: would the creator give this, and to whom.

Many brands also ask for a shorter cut that works as an ad, plus still photos for a gift guide page on their own site.

## Formats at a glance

**Gift content formats by goal**

| Your goal | Format to ask for | What the viewer learns |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Reach undecided shoppers | Gift guide by person | Which gift fits someone they know |
| Win price-conscious buyers | Gift guide by budget | What they get for the money |
| Show the moment | Wrap and reveal | How the gift feels to receive |
| Prove it works | First use after unboxing | What happens after the box is open |
| Fill a page or ad | Photography set | How it looks styled for the season |

If you can only fund one format, a gift guide by person tends to answer the most questions at once. It shows the product, names the recipient and gives a reason in under a minute.

## How to brief creators for holiday gifting

- Name the recipient. A brief that says gifts for a busy dad gets better content than one that says holiday gift.
- Give the price and any deal dates, so the creator can say them on camera accurately.
- Share the shipping cutoffs you want mentioned, if any.
- Tell creators whether they can include other brands in a roundup video.
- Send gift-ready packaging if you have it, so the wrap shot looks like the real thing.
- Agree posting dates around the big events, and usage rights through the end of the season.

Timing is the hard part. Products need to reach creators early enough for content to post before the busiest days, so start outreach now. You can [browse lifestyle creators](https://ugcstars.com/creators?niche=lifestyle) on UGCStars and filter by Unboxing or Product Reviews.

## What creators should show

- Who the gift is for and why, in the first few seconds.
- The product out of the box and in use.
- The price, said clearly.
- One honest note, such as size, setup or who it would not suit.
- A real home setting with light seasonal styling, not a studio.

Creators, the content brands value most this season is the kind that helps someone make a decision. A short, specific gift guide with honest notes often outperforms a long haul with no clear point of view.

Think in waves. One gift guide in October, a deal-focused video for the big sale days and a last-minute gift angle in December give you three chances to reach the same shopper with something new. Each wave can reuse product but should change the hook.

## Mistakes to avoid

- Vague gift claims with no recipient. Viewers need to picture who would get it.
- Posting too late. Shoppers are already buying, and Circana found more than half plan to start before Thanksgiving.
- Hiding the price. Circana's data shows value is still on shoppers' minds.
- Over-styling. Heavy holiday sets can bury the product.
- Running one video all season. Plan fresh angles for each stage of the season.

## Where to start

Brands, pick your top two giftable products, define one recipient for each and brief several creators with a gift guide and a wrap-and-reveal. Creators, film a short gift guide for one type of person and add Unboxing and Product Reviews to your profile.
