Pilates gear is one of the few bright spots in a cautious retail market. Here is why fitness brands are casting creators for reformer and mat content, and how to brief it well.

## The short version

Fitness brands want Pilates creators who can show a reformer, a mat or a small prop in use at home, with clean form and a calm, believable routine. In a September report, Circana named yoga and mat Pilates products as a bright spot in US retail, even as shoppers cut back elsewhere, and a major equipment maker brought its first home reformer to the US the same month. The audience is growing and getting younger, which makes short video the natural place to reach it.

The content brands buy here is practical. A viewer wants to know whether the product fits their room, their level and their budget.

## Why brands are casting for it now

Shoppers were careful in late summer. [Circana](https://www.circana.com/post/as-spending-tightens-consumers-choose-what-they-need-and-what-they-love-reports-circana) reported that US retail unit demand fell 1.7% in August 2026 and that nearly 60% of shoppers were exercising greater caution or reducing discretionary spending. Yet the same report listed yoga and mat Pilates products among a short set of bright spots, alongside frozen desserts, energy drinks and trading cards, driven by a wish for personal wellbeing.

Participation backs this up. [Health & Fitness Business](https://www.healthandfitnessbusiness.org/september2026/feature-how-pilates-took-over) reported that Pilates participation among US fitness-facility members rose 28.1% between 2021 and 2025, citing HFA's 2026 consumer report, and that 13.8 million consumers now take part in Pilates in the US, according to SFIA. Women make up 70% of participants, and adults aged 18 to 24 have the highest participation rate of any age group, at 7.9%.

Brands are moving into the home. In September, [Athletech News](https://athletechnews.com/technogym-launches-first-pilates-reformer-in-us/) reported that Technogym launched its Reform Pilates reformer in the US for homes, hotels, residential buildings and clubs, with on-demand workouts in its app. The launch puts it up against Balanced Body, Merrithew, iFIT and NordicTrack, and Your Reformer, so the category is getting more crowded and more brands will need content that sets them apart.

The same HFB feature notes that the reformer itself makes highly visual social content. That is the opening for UGC.

## What brands ask creators to film

- Room fit: the reformer or mat unboxed, set up and shown in a real living room or spare room, with how it folds or stores away.
- First session: a short beginner routine filmed in real time, so viewers see the pace.
- Form tutorial: one movement, filmed from the side and the front, with cues spoken out loud.
- Gear review: a mat, ring, ball or grip socks compared with what the creator used before.
- Week-in-a-life vlog: how home Pilates fits around work and other training.
- Voiceover demos: the creator explains settings, springs or straps while the footage shows the hands.

Studio-style content still works, but brands selling home equipment usually want the home setting. The question the viewer has is whether this will work in their space, not in a studio.

There is a lesson in the HFB feature for brands, too. Studio leaders quoted there expect more competition and say the winners will stand out on quality of instruction and experience. In content terms, that means creators who teach well will be worth more than creators who only look good on a reformer.

## Formats at a glance

If you are planning a first round of Pilates content, this table matches common goals to the format that usually answers them. Use it to decide what to ask for before you write the brief.

**Pilates UGC formats by goal**

| Your goal | Format to ask for | What the viewer learns |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Sell a home reformer | Unboxing and room-fit demo | Whether it fits and how it stores |
| Sell mats and props | Product review | How it feels and holds up compared with an old one |
| Grow an app or class library | Tutorial | What a session looks like and how hard it is |
| Build trust with beginners | Testimonial or vlog | How a real person started and what changed in their routine |
| Run paid social | Short voiceover demo | The key feature in a few seconds |

Many brands start with the room-fit demo, because it answers the biggest objection to buying equipment for the home. Once that is working, a beginner tutorial gives you a second angle to test against it.

## How to brief creators for Pilates

### Match the creator to the buyer

Pilates is reaching a wider audience than before. The HFB feature notes more Millennial and Gen Z participants, more men in some studios, and budget gyms such as Crunch, EōS Fitness and Snap Fitness adding Pilates classes. Decide who your buyer is first, then cast creators who look and train like that person.

### What to include

- The level of the routine: beginner, intermediate or advanced.
- Safety cues you want said on camera, and any moves you do not want shown.
- The space the product needs, so the creator can film a realistic setup.
- Whether the creator should mention an app, class library or subscription.
- Approved claims about the product, such as noise, footprint or adjustability.
- Usage rights and whether you need vertical and horizontal versions.

Ask creators to film the full setup once, even if the final cut is short. Assembly and storage footage is useful for product pages and ads later. You can [browse fitness creators](https://ugcstars.com/creators?niche=fitness) on UGCStars by format and starting rate.

## What creators should show

Creators, the strongest Pilates videos are calm and specific. Viewers can tell when someone actually trains.

- Your real space, including where the equipment lives when you are not using it.
- Clean form at a speed the viewer can follow.
- One honest drawback, such as setup time or the space it takes.
- Spring or resistance settings on screen, so viewers can copy the session.
- Your level, said up front, so beginners know if the routine is for them.

## Mistakes to avoid

- Fast cuts that hide the movement. Pilates content sells on control, so let shots breathe.
- Studio-only footage for a home product. It leaves the main question unanswered.
- Unsupported body claims. Keep to what the routine is and how it felt.
- Ignoring safety. A missing cue on a reformer can lead to comments that drown out the product.
- Casting only one type of creator when the audience is broadening by age and gender.

## Where to start

Brands, start with one product, one buyer and a simple room-fit brief, then test a tutorial against a review. Creators, film a short beginner routine at home and add Tutorials and Product Demos to your profile.
