The short version
Home appliance brands want creators who can show a clear before and after: pet hair gone from a rug, a stain lifted, a waffle coming out crisp. In mid-October, a cordless vacuum and a waffle maker entered the US TikTok Shop top ten, two appliances in the top ten at once, which Z Media called unprecedented, and both sold through simple demonstrations. If your product does something visible, a demo video is the most direct way to sell it.
This is good news for brands with higher price points. A strong demo can justify the price on screen.
Why brands are casting for it now
For the week ending October 11, Z Media found that the BISSELL PowerClean FurFinder cordless stick vacuum, priced at $337.99, entered the US TikTok Shop top ten at number three with $431K in GMV from just 118 creators. That works out to $3,648 per creator, the highest Z Media says it has recorded. The Ninja Belgian Waffle Maker PRO entered at number seven with $330K, and Shark Home grew 4.2% at brand level while most top brands fell.
Z Media's read is that demonstrable utility is the key. The vacuum's pet-hair positioning speaks to pet owners, and the waffle maker suits satisfying cooking videos. Both rely on showing the product working rather than telling a story.
Seasonal demand helps too. Adobe expects online sales of household cleaning items to rise 49% during Cyber Week compared with September levels, and pet products to rise 93%. It expects the best appliance deals to land on Black Friday. During the October Prime event, Numerator listed Lysol Disinfecting Wipes and Dawn Powerwash Spray among the top-selling items.
Retailers competed on floor care, too. OpenBrand found Target ran the deepest floor care discount for the event week at 32% off, led by stick vacuums at 38%, while non-steam wet and dry floor washers led product types on Amazon at 35% off.
There is a casting lesson in the same data. Z Media contrasts the vacuum's small, focused creator roster with broad affiliate programs that spread sales thinly across thousands of videos, and argues that for higher-priced products, well-matched creators beat sheer numbers. In practice, that means picking creators whose homes, pets and routines look like your buyer's.
What brands ask creators to film
- Before and after: the mess, the product working and the result, in one continuous shot if possible.
- Pet hair test: the vacuum on a rug, couch or car seat used by a real pet.
- Recipe demo: the kitchen appliance making one simple dish from start to finish.
- Unboxing and setup: assembly, charging and first use.
- Comparison: the new tool against the old one on the same mess.
- Cleaning-day vlog: the product in a real routine.
Keep the camera on the result. The satisfying moment, like a full dust bin or a golden waffle, is what viewers remember.
Formats at a glance
| Your goal | Format to ask for | What the viewer learns |
|---|---|---|
| Justify a higher price | Before-and-after demo | What the product can do |
| Reach pet owners | Pet hair test | Whether it handles their mess |
| Sell a kitchen gadget | Recipe demo | How easy it is to use |
| Reduce setup worries | Unboxing and setup | How quickly it is ready |
| Win comparison shoppers | Side-by-side review | Why it beats what they own |
Z Media's data suggests a small group of well-matched creators can outsell a broad roster for higher-priced products. Casting matters as much as the format.
How to brief creators for appliances
- Name the one result you want shown, such as pet hair, crumbs or a sticky stain.
- Ask for a real mess in a real home, not a staged pile on a clean floor.
- Share approved claims, such as suction, runtime or capacity, in writing.
- Ask for one continuous take of the key moment, to show nothing was edited.
- Cast creators who match the buyer: pet owners, home cooks or cleaning accounts.
- Agree usage rights for paid social around Black Friday and Cyber Week.

What creators should show
- The mess before you start, clearly.
- The product working, at real speed.
- The result up close, including what it missed.
- Noise, weight or cleanup afterwards, if it matters.
- Price and who it suits.
Creators, you do not need a big following for this kind of content. Brands care most about whether your home and your mess look like their buyers'.
Send the product with enough time for real use. A creator who has used a vacuum for a week can talk about battery life, emptying the bin and how it handles daily mess. That kind of detail answers the questions buyers of higher-priced appliances ask in the comments, and it makes the video useful long after the sale days.
Mistakes to avoid
- Over-editing the key moment. Cuts make viewers doubt the result.
- Staged messes that do not look real.
- Skipping setup and maintenance, which buyers of higher-priced appliances want to see.
- Generic lifestyle shots with no demo.
- Quoting specs that are not on the brand's approved list.
For kitchen appliances, cook something you would actually make, from start to finish, and show the cleanup. Viewers want to know how much counter space the appliance takes, how long it takes to heat and how hard it is to wash. Those details often decide the purchase more than the finished dish.
Where to start
Brands, choose one hero appliance and one visible result, then brief a short list of well-matched creators for a before-and-after and a setup video. Creators, film a real before-and-after with something you own and add Product Demos and Product Reviews to your profile. You can find lifestyle creators on UGCStars.
One more watch-out for brands. Shop charts move week to week, and Z Media's figures are a snapshot of one week. Use them as a signal of which content formats are working, then test with your own product before you scale spend.
